1. The Day the LOLcats died

Does the USA not realise that the rest of the world* is looking at SOPA/PIPA and scratching their heads. There’s nothing about these bills that makes any sense. They read like the reactionary hysteria of old people who a terrified by change, and who just don’t get what teh intertoobz are all about.

Dear America, if you want to be able to innovate and lead the world in ideas (or whatever mollifying soundbite your politician of choice is peddling today) then understand that this legislation is the antithesis of all that.

So, your task for the day, America, is to phone your local representatives - all of them - the ones you voted for and the ones you didn’t. Be polite. Be concise. Make it clear that you, your family and your friends will never vote for them if they vote for SOPA/PIPA. Don’t get all riled-up and insult them - be cool. Make the call - it’s a few minutes of your life, compared to the hours of your life you spend online.

BTW, don’t worry about the Wikipedia blackout - it’s just the English Wikipedia that’s blacked-out. Y’all speak a second language over there in the U.S. of A, right? …? Oh… Well… You could always visit your local library. If you’ve never been to one before, it’s a big building with lots of books, and they have special voice-activated search-engines there - that’s the people behind the desk.

*(that’s “the rest of the world” excluding totalitarian regimes, who are all applauding Congress taking the lead on these matters)
